Cyber Intelligence and Statecraft

Crisis at the speed of Code: This seminar examines the most salient national security crises and dilemmas intersecting with the grey areas of cybersecurity. It will consider the nexus to private sector engagement and the need for refinement of current policies, laws, and norms to better reflect creative activities of state and non-state actors in the cyber domain, particularly concerning espionage, the commission of financial crime, and the role of non-state actors, surrogates, or cyber mercenaries.

Instructor: Sana Saleh

Ms. Saleh is currently lending her national security, cyber policy, strategic development, legal, and management consulting expertise to the Department of Homeland Security as a Director. Previously, she was Special Advisor to four-star Pentagon leadership within the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and prior to that, Office of the Secretary of the Army. She is a public policy influencer who has worked with and been invited to speak at Beltway think tanks, private sector roundtables, NATO, and Oxford University.

Counterintelligence Cyber Technology

This seminar initially introduces the main principles of cryptography to build a solid foundation. The seminar will cover some of the major technical pillars that rest on this foundation, including financial technology, Big Data, Machine Learning. The seminar will later dive deeply into digital currencies and digital ledgers, computer viruses, Malware, and automation. The seminar will tie all this knowledge into a heuristic overview of the cyber intelligence industry, its major public and private players, and how they collaboratively work together to form defensive and, in some cases, offensive capabilities.
